Biography

Wendy Gibson Teaching

Wendy trained with the Joyce Higgins School of Ballet where she achieved Royal Academy of Dance Examinations up to Grade 8, progressing to Senior grade and Dance Education syllabus levels 1,2 and 3. Wendy Assisted Joyce as part of her teacher training and continued in Belfast with Maxine Graham and Laura Walker, where she studied and achieved her vocational major examinations - Pre-Elementary, Elementary and Intermediate to successfully obtain her R.A.D. Teaching Certificate with distinction in 1996.

As an added interest Wendy attended Tap Dancing classes with Diana McVicker. She also studied piano and music theory with Roxaline Simpson, through the London College of Music.

Wendy started performing on stage during her time at High School, dancing solo en pointe in 'Tom Sawyer'. She went on to choreograph several school productions, including 'Oliver Twist, Calamity Jane, Half-a Sixpence, The Boyfriend, Guys and Dolls and Oklahoma'. Her interests then extended to local Choral and Operatic Societies where she danced in many shows around Northern Ireland.

Wendy also choreographed and danced for a video featuring local pop group 'Tiberius Minnows' and performed at the 75th Anniversary of the Royal Academy of Dance in the Grand Opera House, Belfast. She has also danced on many occasions for the public with Belfast Ballet Club.

Wendy's other achievements include teaching ballet to gymnasts at the leading Salto Gymnastic Centre for several years and she taught the B.Tech Performing Arts course at Ballymoney College of Further Education.

She has choreographed with Banbridge Musical Society in their pantomime 'Pinnoccio' and has enjoyed arranging many wedding reception dances featuring the Bride and Groom and wedding party.

Recently Wendy has added to her love of dance by taking classes in Sequence and Ballroom dancing and firmly believes that ballet is the core of all forms of dance.

in 1993 Wendy opened her own ballet school - 'The Wendy Gibson Ballet Academy' In Coleraine with classes also in Larne and Ballyclare and in 1997 extended to her home town of Lisburn.

Wendy is pleased that her pupils have achieved a 100 per cent success rate in their R.A.D. graded examinations and is delighted that pupil Nina Logue has recently been accepted as a student at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, in the new term.
Some of Wendy's pupils have also had the privilege of dancing on stage with the European Ballet Company at the Riverside Theatre in Coleraine.

Wendy also assists with the annual Northern Ireland Summer Ballet School which is run by the Royal Academy of Dance Teachers in Northern Ireland, having acted as Secretary in the past, and encourages pupils to attend this over the summer to progress their training with the top class faculty and pianists brought in to Northern Ireland from across the world.

Wendy aims to encourage all children to dance and perform to the best of their ability and to appreciate and enjoy the world of Ballet.
